WHO WE ARE
The Regional Winter Shelter System was established by ARS in 2007 and includes:
Catholic Charities La Posada de Guadalupe in Carlsbad - open year round for men
Bread of Life Rescue Mission in Oceanside - open 12/01/09 - 03/31/10 for men and women
Operation Hope in Vista - open 12/01/09 - 03/31/10 for women and families with children
The Salvation Army in Escondido - open 12/01/09 - 03/31/10 for men and women
Interfaith Shelter Network Coastal (Community Resource Center) open 09/27/09 - 03/14/10 for men, women, and families with children
Interfaith Shelter Network Inland (Interfaith Community Services) open 12/21/09 - 04/10/10 for men, women, and families with children
Together these six shelters provide up to 244 shelter beds each night. These are night-time shelters with the exception that Operation Hope remains open throughout each weekend. They are "dry" shelters, which means that no one who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs can remain in them. Individuals who test positive for drugs or alcohol are referred to the Escondido Sobering & Stabilization Center for the night. All adult shelter residents must participate in a self-development program with case managers. The larger group shelters have case management staff on-site in the evening. The Interfaith Shelters Coastal and Inland receive case management during the day from a community based agency.
The funding for this regional shelter system is provided by the individual provider agencies, the Alliance for Regional Solutions, the City of Carlsbad, City of Escondido, City of Encinitas, City of Del Mar, City of Oceanside, City of Poway, City of San Marcos, City of Solana Beach, City of Vista, The Tri-City HealthCare District, The Parker Foundation, and The United Way of San Diego.
